Entries are now open for the prestigious biennial Redland Art Awards, a contemporary painting competition open to all Australian artists, offering a national prize pool of over $20,000.
Redland Art Awards 2014 prize pool consists of four prizes:

|Creative Kids Tales 2014 Illustrators Competition
Winners will be announced on the Creative Kids’ Tales website on 1 December 2014 and all prizes will be distributed by 31 December 2014. Prizes: • 1st Prize - The winning entry will form the cover of the first Creative Kids Tales anthology in Smashwords. Plus one year’s free membership to Creative Kids Tales. • 2nd Prize - $50 book pack and one year’s free membership to Creative Kids Tales. • 3rd Prize – One year’s free membership to Creative Kids Tales. • All entrants will receive a certificate of participation. • The winning entry will form the cover of our eBook. The top three names will be displayed on the Creative Kids Tales website and form part of our next archive update with the National Library. Conditions of Entry: Submissions must be original artwork by the addressee only. Your entry must not have been accepted for publication or won a prize in any other competition at time of submission. Entries by Australian residents aged between 18 - 110 years old. Your illustration must appeal to children aged between 5 - 13 years of age. ||Victorian Veterans Story Writing and Art Competition
The Dept of Veterans’ Affairs is inviting current serving and ex-service communities have the opportunity to show off their creative talents in the annual Victorian Veterans’ Story Writing and Art Competition.
The competition, which began as a therapy exercise for returned veterans at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, is now open to current and ex-servicemen and women (including National Service, Peacemakers and Peacekeepers), their spouses, widows, eligible children and grandchildren (over the age of 18), who reside in Victoria.
Categories for the competition include story writing, poetry, art / painting, craftwork and photography. The competition welcomes all entries, regardless of skill level. The special writing category for 2014 is titled “Mateship – Stories of Companionship”. Stories are to be based on fact, but not necessarily a firsthand account and are limited to 1,500 words.
VISUAL ART ENTRIES
Entries will be displayed to the public at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital in Sept/October. Prizes for the best entries in each category will be awarded at a presentation ceremony in late November.
||Macquarie Digital Portraiture Award 2014
The National Portrait Gallery calls all creative types aged 18 – 30 to submit a screen-based digital portrait for the Macquarie Digital Portraiture Award 2014.
The artist judged to have made the most outstanding screen-based digital portrait will be awarded a $10,000 bursary and an artistic residency at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts.
|John Leslie Art Prize 2014
The John Leslie Art Prize 2014 is a non-acquisitive prize open to all artists living and working in Australia. Entries must have been completed after 1 August 2012. Artists may submit up to two entries. A non-refundable payment of $35.00 is applicable for each entry. An entry will consist of a completed entry form, supporting material: digital image(s). ||The MCOLLECTION Art Award
The MCOLLECTION Art Award is a competition created and independently run by The MCollection, a Melbourne based, contemporary Australian Art Collective. The aim of the MCollection Award is to encourage unrepresented Victorian artists and support the Melbourne art community. The award consists of a $7,000 cash prize, for the winning entrant and an art supplies incentive for runner up.
Grace Cossington Smith art award 2014
Artists are invited to submit original two dimensional artworks that reflect the theme of Making Connections. The cost of entry is $50 for up to three submitted artworks. One winning entry will form part of the permanent collection of Abbotsleigh's Grace Cossington Smith Gallery.

||Doug Moran National Portrait Prize
The Doug Moran National Portrait Prize has encouraged both excellence and creativity in contemporary Australian portraiture for the past 26 years. Currently with an annual first prize of one hundred and fifty thousand dollars, the Prize is an important part of Australia's Arts calendar. The Prize is acquisitive and the winning portrait immediately becomes the property of the Moran Arts Foundation, to be exhibited permanently as part of the Moran Arts Foundation Collection.
||Two Years On The Wall
Artists have until 17 August to submit a drawing, sketch or photograph of a wall mural design that captures the essence of its urban location. The design should be created specifically for the 3m wide x 2.5m high wall in the heart of the Richmond restaurant’s rooftop terrace that will be its home for two years.
The winner will be selected by a judging panel including TarraWarra’s winemaker and General Manager Clare Halloran, Union Dining Chef Nicky Riemer and owner Adam Cash, and art gallery owner Murray White of Murray White Room. The winning artist will be invited to paint their mural between September and October for a 12 November public launch and unveiling. Entrants must be based in Victoria, able to complete the painting in the September-October period, and must not have exhibited before.
||The Paul Guest Prize 2014
The Paul Guest Prize is a non-acquisitive cash prize of $12,000 which is held every two years, highlighting contemporary drawing practice in Australia. The Prize was initiated by former Family Court Judge and Olympic rower, the Honourable Paul Guest QC and encourages artists from across Australia to engage with the important medium of drawing and to create challenging and unique art works
||Mansfield Art Glass Exposition (MAGE) 2014
Contemporary Art Glass – Prize pool $8,000
Six non-acquisitive juried competitions for contemporary glass works by artists working in Australia and New Zealand are offered as part of the Mansfield Art Glass Exposition (MAGE) 2014.
The competitions are:

Contemporary Glass Jewellery Prize 2014
This newly established non-acquisitive prize aims to encourage artists working in glass and jewellery in Australia and New Zealand to further explore the exhilarating potential of glass as a material for creating exciting contemporary jewellery. The winner will receive AU$1,500 cash.

Clayton Utz is proud to support the Arts through the Clayton Utz Art Award. The Award offers a $10,000 winner's prize and exhibition space for the finalists and is awarded to Queensland-based artists or artists with a strong connection to Queensland.
|The Kennedy Prize
The prize, offered by the Kennedy Arts Foundation, is based and exhibited in Adelaide but open to Australian artists nationwide, and is awarded to works that embody, comment on or celebrate beauty. The winning artist will receive the Kennedy Prize of $25,000, and their artwork will be acquired by the Kennedy Arts Foundation, toured nationwide and auctioned at the next year’s Kennedy Prize exhibition. The work’s increased recognition, prestige and market value will thus contribute significantly to the prize’s funds, ensuring continued annual growth. The main exhibit will present finalists’ works, demonstrating their exceptional quality. The Foundation’s Choice, a separate exhibition comprising a selection of the remaining entries, will run alongside the main exhibit. The Foundation’s Choice exhibition will showcase the scope of the entries and feature a diverse, exciting array of emerging and established Australian artistic talent. A people’s choice award will also be awarded to the audience’s preferred entrant. The Kennedy Arts Foundation will issue a limited edition print of this artwork for sale, with all profit shared between the foundation and the artist.
| Maritime Art Awards & Exhibition
Since 2002 the Mission to Seafarers Victoria maritime art prize has exhibited the work of over 700 artists and fast become recognised as Australia’s leading maritime art award. Prize money awarded to date has exceeded $129,000 and the organisation has raised approximately $180,000 toward the provision of seafarers’ welfare services in Victoria. Now known as the Maritime Art Awards & Exhibition, the award promotes excellence in maritime and seafaring subjects in art and assists in raising the profile of the 1.5 million merchant seafarers responsible for transporting more than 90 per cent of world trade.
||Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize
The Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize is a national competition that awards and promotes Australian contemporary photography. The Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize invites photographic entries that interpret ‘Contemporary Life in Australia’ with an emphasis on day-to-day life. The Moran Prize is acquisitive and the winning photograph/s immediately becomes the property of the Moran Arts Foundation, to be held and exhibited permanently as part of the Moran Arts Foundation Collection.
||The A.M.E. Bale Travelling Scholarship and Art Prize 2014
The A.M.E. Bale Travelling Scholarship and Art Prize are awarded to Australian artists who have demonstrated talent and achievement in traditional styles. The Art Prize is intended to encourage, support and advance classical training of emerging artists (in their early to mid-career) at any stage of life, who are pursuing the study and practice of traditional art and who desire to study the works of old masters.
There are three categories for the Art Prize.
1. Major Award for a travelling scholarship – $50,000
2. AME Bale Art Prize in the medium of oils and/or acrylics – $5,000
3. AME Bale Art Prize for works on paper – $5,000
